It was a weekend of 1sts at Brackenbrae. New girl Pearl had her first outing under saddle and was very good. We did not know how much she had done as a ridden horse, we knew she had been broken to ride and drive but did not know how much of each she had done. It turned out she has obviously been well schooled under saddle and she behaved nicely. We had her out with Candy in hand to give her a lead and some moral support. The other first was the two foals going out for the first time without their mothers. Ragnald and Lucent have been walked out with their mothers before and gone to shows but now was the time to branch out on their own, all part of growing up. The first few minutes were interesting. We were treated to baby tantrums and lots of shouting for mum but eventually they settled down for a walk. It should be easier next time.
We have also had a reappearance of the local Beaver population. A Beaver, probably a youngster looking for its own territory, has been visiting along the river bank and sampling the willow trees. It even visited our "garden" and gnawed down our young apple tree. Jimmy has set his trap camera but so far no luck with any pictures of the offender.
