It has been all go the last few days with lots of activity with horses and sheep. The show season got off to a good if wet start at Fife Show. We did well in the hunter classes with Brackenbrae Ragnald (Rags) winning best hunter foal, Brackenbrae Incandescence (Candy) winning best yearling and Reserve In Hand Hunter and Twinoaks Skysail winning Champion In Hand Hunter

In between horse shows we managed to shear the gimmers and the tups in some hot weather, it was some of our earliest ever shearing but the sheep appreciated loosing their heavy fleeces in the end of May heatwave, well for Scotland it was!!!!

Next it was off to West Fife Show just a few miles south of us in Kelty. We took Candy on her own to give her experience of travelling and showing on her own and she behaved well. She also did well in the show winning the yearling in-hand hunter class then going on to stand Reserve In-Hand Hunter and then behaving well in a big class for the over all In-Hand Horse Championship. Jim and Candy have bonded well together and as she matures she may well win more.

The next day we all headed off to Blairgowrie for The Scottish Grass Sickness Show, a charity show to raise money for research into a cure for Equine Grass Sickness, a cause close to our hearts since we lost Chieftain and almost lost Crystal. It was a mixed day both weather wise and results. The weather was alternately roasting hot and torrential rain while results were not great in our morning classes. However results picked up in the afternoon with Brackenbrae Ragnald and his mum Skysail being placed 1st and 2nd in the Rare Breeds or Unusual Pure Bred class. This led us onto a class called the Mixed Championship where all the winners of the fun classes competed. To our delight Rags was placed Reserve Champion behind a lovely ridden Friesian so we qualified for the Overall Championship. This included all the ridden and in-hand champions and reserves so we were not optimistic about our chances, however the judges were impressed with him and he was picked as Reserve Supreme Champion. This capped a good day out and a successful if tiring weekend for all of us, horses and handlers.
